Dr. Smith joins the center for excellence as it continues to expand its offerings, serving an increasingly broad set of needs
July 9, 2020, SAN ANTONIO, TX – NuHope is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Adrianne (Patti) Smith, MD, as its Chief Medical Officer (CMO). In this role, Dr. Smith will work to build upon the mission established by NuHope’s founder, Dr. Adam Bruggeman and his dedicated team by offering outpatient treatment to those suffering from chronic pain and opioid dependency, in addition to a new preoperative assessment program.
“Dr. Bruggeman has put into place a beautiful vision, and I am honored to work in this space to help further the successful treatment of our patients through a multidisciplinary system. Through my extensive work in wound care, I know that it is essential for each patient dealing
with chronic pain to receive care from a variety of specialists with a shared focus, and that’s what we offer at NuHope,” said Dr. Smith.
“We are so fortunate to have someone as dedicated and accomplished as Dr. Smith join our team. Her vast history and interest in innovation make her the perfect fit to facilitate our shared vision of treating the whole patient,” said Dr. Bruggeman.
Born into a military family, Dr. Smith’s expansive career has included a nine-year tour as a military medical officer in the US Air Force, academia, entrepreneurial activities, and corporate management. While on active duty, Dr. Smith serviced in both continental US and overseas assignments.
Dr. Smith’s career accomplishments make her a sought-after teacher and speaker. She developed the original 2.5-day Wound Care Program offered in conjunction with the San Antonio Nix Hospital (ATMOS) Hyperbaric Medicine Training Program, training physicians and clinicians monthly for four years. Additionally, Dr. Smith has worked with groups who have
changed national policies and participated in clinical research trials for pain management.
As NuHope’s CMO, Dr. Smith will be responsible for grant applications, clinical research, and community education. The goal is to conduct clinical research using cutting-edge technologies which will be incorporated into clinical practice protocols and disseminated through educational programs. She will be available to consult with large employers in the San Antonio
area interested in collaborating with NuHope for their healthcare systems.
Dr. Smith is excited to return to San Antonio which she considers home.
NuHope is a unique treatment center that combines the expertise of medical doctors, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, social workers, licensed counselors, drug counselors, certified counselors, and physical therapists to care for patients dependent on opioids. This integrated treatment addresses the physical, biological, and mental components of opioid use, including pain management, and is done in conjunction with a graduated taper of opioid medications. This protocol must be done in totality to limit or eliminate signs and symptoms of craving and withdrawal, which can hinder or prevent recovery. Learn more at NuHope’s website: https://nuhope.com/
